Class Valentines

Now that I'm a mom I have an excuse to sit at home and make love bug valentines that stick to your fridge and hold notes. For some reason I couldn't photograph the note that we attached to these. . . maybe the print was too small, but they say "A love bug for (child's name) From Everest."

Found the kit at Joanne's Fabric and they were just as cheap as those mini card valentines, just way more fun to make.

Valentine for Everest

Knit a heart for Everest. Sewed in some snaps so I can fill it with his favorite treats.

Pattern: Heart
Needles: US 7
Yarn: worsted weight
Mods: I increased until 38 stitches across and then decreased one at the beginning of each rounded edge.

Makes me smile

For Lindsey's birthday, I knitted her some ice cream cones. I ran into her mom today at preschool and she told me they were a big hit. Apparently when Lindsey unwrapped them she just sat there holding them because she had no words. (my heart melting) Her mom told me that she slept with them that night. It is so worth every minute of time and ounce of effort to make hand made gifts when you make a five year old's day. Lindsey's mom told me I should sell them, but honestly, I just like giving them away to the people in my life. It's something small I can do to tell them that they are worth the effort. And even if I didn't get such a lovely response from my gifts, I would continue to make them because it is so satisfying to create things with my own two hands.

Lindsey's Birthday Party

It was some party. Twenty six kids. Ice cream sundaes. Dance Party. Lindsey likes the High School Musical soundtrack so that was playing in the background. And all the kids were dressed up in their PJs. The first activity was strutting their stuff down the runway. And man, some of those girls could give America's Next Top Model a run for their money. I think there was a little too much excitement because Everest chose to watch most of it.

The ice cream parlor was kid sized and everyone was able to create their own sundae. After the ice cream, Everest opened up and was ready to party, however there was only five minutes left.

Oh and that kid in the red PJs standing next to Everest, well his name is Everest too. The first one I've met. He's four. He will be going to an LO school as well, but on the other side of the lake. But they may end up together in jr high though. It was funny because the ice cream people kept talking to the other Everest and my Everest kept doing what they were asking. I talked to Everest's Mom and finally introduced the two Everests. Who would have guess two Everests in the same town.

I think Everest's favorite part was his parting gift. Shooting out long tongues is pretty exciting.

Buttons

I found some bamboo buttons that were the perfect size for the buttonholes and happened to be 50% off.

I'm in total adoration of this sweater. If I could squeeze myself into it I'd be wearing it right now and would probably never take it off. Love it.

I should totally be doing other things

But instead I'm doing this. And I L.O.V.E. it. The pattern is lovely to knit. No seams. Seriously my favorite thing ever! I used a bulky weight yarn so it took about two seconds to make, give or take a millisecond. It's acrylic so it's washable. I think next time I might go up a needle size because the pattern called for aran weight yarn, which you of course know is slightly thinner than bulky weight, but harder to find especially at cheap yarn stores. So the yarn is a tad stiff, but I'm thinking it will give when worn. Plus I tried this new sewing bind off that the author suggests because she wants the collar to be loose and man it takes for flipping ever. It wasn't difficult, just slow. But I guess, it makes a nice finish.

I made the six-twelve month size since newborns tend to be wrapped in blankets all the time anyway. Have to find some buttons. And figure out how to make button holes bigger since I'm always drawn to big buttons.

If you want to make your own, which you totally should!

...

Had the eerie feeling that he was going to jump over the ditch and come after us.
