Can't go long

before I start working those needles again. This year I made Charlie a christmas stocking. (He already opened it so I'm not ruining the surprise) I dug through all the free patterns I could find and managed to find this one. Marla wanted it to be red so it would sort of match the one my grandmother knit her. It's the first time I did any color work. I love the top snowflakes. The foot kind of bothers me a little. It looks kind of stumpy, but it's a stocking for presents not a sock for a foot so I guess I'll get over it. I'm insane and knit it all in one night because I was enjoying myself and Everest was fast asleep.

Twenty six days

The tree is my favorite part of Christmas. So why not get it as soon as possible so you can enjoy it all season long. I must admit that I am not very good at stringing lights. You can definitely see the wire, at least its green so it blends. I love going through the ornaments and seeing all the themes Everest and I have gone threw. I have quite a few elephants from over the years that I love. Each one is unique. Everest has a collection of hippos that merged into animals and now birds. We have a flock of flamingos.

My Mom found a pheasant for Everest that he wanted to go up on top. No angel or star for us, we have a christmas pheasant. It looks pretty awesome.

I've also started a collection of photo ornaments of Everest. One each year and I love watching him grow up every season. I'm looking forward to having a whole tree full of Everest by the time he's grown up. I'm happy that I had the foresight to start at the beginning so I can record our christmases together.

I am thankful for

Every moment I share with my son Everest.

My three families:

1. the one I was born into, the Headlees and Rendells
2. my second family the Okanos, who adopted me in high school
3. the one I received when Everest was born, the Hansons, who go out of their way for us

My friends, who I unfortunately never see because of work, school and parenting, or living in South Africa.

My warm, comfortable home.

Knitting needles and yarn...they make me happy.

Minis

Everest and I made mini cupcakes today. Chocolate with chocolate icing. About three dozen of them. Feel free to stop by for one.

Washcloths

I started knitting washcloths for Everest's preschool teachers. It saves me from having to contribute to the annual group christmas gift. I'm trying to be generous and practical at the same time. And really who doesn't need a hand made wash cloth?

Pattern: Waffle Knit washcloth (free on ravelry)
Yarn: cotton

Totem Pole

Everest took a field trip today to see a 50 ft totem pole. The class learned the symbols and the history of the pole. Of course it was pouring down rain, but the kids seemed one with it.

Everest's favorite part was the eagle. I liked the hummingbird.

Fish Shirt

Everest's preschool class is awesome. On Monday the kids painted a real fish and pressed it onto shirts. They are all going to wear them for their Native American potluck next week. You can see the scales and eye and everything! Schools are way cooler than in my day.
